Shift Your Mindset About Money
Most people don’t become millionaires or achieve sizeable financial success by doing a day job, by Timothy Ferriss, author of the book ‘The Four Hour Work Week’.
- You need to have multiple streams of income.
- You need to have incomes that do not rely on you trading your time.
- In the book, the author says that this mindset change that he has adopted has allowed him to see lots of different opportunities in the world that he might not have seen otherwise.
Strategic Laziness
This relies on the entire concept of realising the value of our own time. Time is the only thing we can’t make more of, we can always make more money, but we can not make more time.
Having read the book The 4 Hour Work Week, I have been trying to do a lot to optimise my time.
An important question you have to ask yourself every time is what I am trying to do, and what is the result that I am trying to achieve by this?
For example, in businesses or while making a website, people often spend ages in making the website look pretty, fancier and getting the logo right and spending 100’s of hours on these pointless things. In contrast, if we are strategically lazy, the end goal is all that matters: to get customers and sell them something, so a fancy website, logo, the business card doesn’t make a huge difference.
Develop an Entrepreneurial Diagnostic Mindset
In case you are into businesses and want to set up one at a very young age, which is like the ideal way to get wealthy, you need to have a decent idea and should ask yourself these questions to figure out if something is a good business idea or not is:
- Identifying a problem that people have
- Figuring out a way to solve the problem
- Finally, charging for it, because ideally, people will want to pay for it.
So the next question is how to get a good business idea
When you are going out in the world, you have to be recognised whenever you feel/notice that something sucks- and that’s how big startups such as ola, uber, zomato are formed.
The more you approach the world with this entrepreneur mindset, you start looking at the world from a different perspective.
Develop A Growth Mindset
Everything is figureoutable
I don’t know how to do it, but I believe I can figure it out because there’s absolutely everything on the internet is what a person with a growth mindset will think like. Stuff feels more like a black box than it actually is, and almost everything is available out there on the internet. This brings us towards the next topic.
Ask the Right People
Although everything is available on the internet, it is vital for us to both take help and help others, which is where networking plays a huge role.
- When a problem arises, you need to think about who can solve this problem rather than how can I solve this problem which is described well in this phenomenal book Who Not How.
Learn to make friends
An essential habit in life which everyone needs to have is learning how to make friends in real life and, more importantly, on the internet, and the single best way I find is Twitter. This is an incredible invention that you can use to make friends with people worldwide.
Instagram is different, and it’s all about putting pretty pictures. In contrast, Twitter is all about sharing good opinions, exciting ideas, and connecting with people who share similar ideas that automatically leads to becoming internet friends. Then you chat a little bit and can get a solid network worldwide, and one, it makes life much more fun to meet people with similar interests and two, they can help you accelerate your career growth.
The idea of making friends is not only about how can that person add value to my life. It’s more about, genuinely trying to be a nice person and helping out each other.
Read a lot
Just like we can get wisdom from our real-life and internet friends by Twitter, we can get more wisdom from people who have written a book on a specific topic because authors spend a reasonably large number of years in writing a book and consolidating all their experience, wisdom in that one book which takes you a few hours to read. So you can get a vast amount of value from them.
Reading books is such a great way to accelerate your learning in almost anything.
Acquire Financial Literacy
This is one point that no one teaches you. Unfortunately, it’s neither taught in schools or colleges, so you have to learn it by yourself, and books play a significant role in this too.
So much of our life is spent pursuing financial freedom, but we won’t have financial literacy if we don’t know the basics of saving or investing or how the stock market works or how taxes work.
One excellent book which teaches you about financial literacy is The Psychology of Money, 20 bite-size lessons about money, which teaches you that it is essential for you to take your financial life into your own hands.
